Are they anywhere close to fruition, publication, for our edification and gratification? Subtle difference. People might help each other on the street or smile or nod, but that is not the same as the small talk I am .. well, talking about. There was a generation when that happened but it definitely is waning nowadays. Sorry that this post wasn't found substantial enough! :-(
Glad you liked the pic!! :-D

Dear S,
You find the middle ground between Parvatiji and me!! :-) I suppose there are people of both flavours, but surprisingly I seem to find people who have lesser and lesser interest in the same. Maybe I need to start looking elsewhere...

Dear S,
You stopped there!? Didn't you read the entire post!? :-(

Dear B,
I'll take your word if you say the people in the West are not as laconic as our countrymen are talkative. The ones I met were fun and I had the best time, but some of the people who travelled there tell me otherwise. Perhaps, it is just homesickness for them that makes them say so?

Dear M,
Conversation of an Indian from Switzerland with a Turk in Copenhagen? How globalised are we!? :-D

Dear BVS,
Welcome to this blog. Its great fun listening!!! A bit unfortunate that I live in a country where no one ever does that.

I was in copenhagen on work last week and had an absolutely amazing conversation with a turkish cabbie. The conversation was about how much he misses his home! (and he's lived in copenhagen for 35 years!! I cannot make small talk to people ...i am one such. I cannot make small talk to people I know, let alone strangers. What you've written makes me think. I must've missed many enlightening conversations because I was too shy?, scared? to make conversation.

I disagree that people in western countries are less open to talking. I have had very pleasant experiences both in the UK - it was sort of a culture shock to me that complete strangers would hi when you pass them on the road - and in the US, where I had many conversations with perfect strangers in restaurants and pubs. It probably helped that I was a lone Indian guy eating out at the restaurants. people had questions about india (no, not about snake charmers and elephants) and what we indians thought about issues.Bijeshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11198229743865918753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9766640.post-42133407076970653252007-07-12T20:49:00.000+05:302007-07-12T20:49:00.000+05:30Pan puris and children - to me they feel they same...Pan puris and children - to me they feel they same - crispy and over-flowing; spicy with a short attention. :)Shhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16991504340370259469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9766640.post-88274140900754419192007-07-12T11:32:00.000+05:302007-07-12T11:32:00.000+05:30That was a very realistic post:)Many instances rem...That was a very realistic post:)Many instances reminds me of many such occurences in my life too.Especially the book store one.

I have a neutral thought over the post. There are people of both kinds.I feel our perceptions become stronger on what kind of people we encounter in our daily life.smiliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00958531959382486627noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9766640.post-87119503812276571262007-07-12T09:22:00.000+05:302007-07-12T09:22:00.000+05:30Oh. Shops, roads, railway stations, buses, bus stops, autos - you name it - everywhere smiles are the trigger to long purposeless conversations that you so lament are a lost art.

I think talking with strangers is an art kicking and alive, especially in our great talkative country. So relax and look for some other lost art to be wistful about, if you will...

Anyway, a very sweet post, but not too substantial, if I may say so.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
